HRTC - Himachal pradesh road transport corporation provides passenger road transport in Himachal Pradesh, with special bus services to the high hills of Himalayas. Himachal pradesh road transport corporation operates mainly from Shimla, Mandi, Hamirpur and Dharamshala and the road transportation service is divided into 23 depots located in various parts of Himachal Pradesh. HRTC not only provides intercity and innercity road transportation to passengers, but also provides interstate road transport to the states of Haryana, Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Chandigarh and Delhi.



The Himachal Pradesh government is running its buses to different stations.

The bus facility in Himachal is very nice.and it leaves a deep impression on tourists coming from the outside states and countries.
There are thousands of buses connecting the different distt.s and sorrrounding states.The Himachal government has now started some Air conditioned buses to some tourist places for the comfort of tourists.However the financial condition of the state is not very good.Evenafter they are so much facilities...

HRTC Overview

HRTC provides public transit facility to its passengers in the state of Himachal and to the adjoining states like Punjab, Haryana and Uttaranchal. HRTC runs approximately 1733 routes. HRTC operates four types of buses namely

Ordinary Buses
High-Tech Buses
Deluxe Buses
Luxury Coach Air Conditioned Buses


Concessions / Discount Information

  • A group of 10 or more passengers is allowed a discount in fare @ 10%.
  • Passengers purchasing return tickets are allowed a discount in fare @ 10%.
  • HRTC has come out with one more concessional facility called "SMART CARD". Under this scheme, a smart card holder is allowed 10% concession in fare for travelling in HRTC buses. The senior citizen is allowed 20% concession in fare. The general public can purchase the smart card against a payment of Rs. 60/- having its validity for one year from the date of purchase.
  • Free travel to Handicapped, Press Correspondents/ MLAs/ MPs/ EX-MLAs/ EX-MPs and Social Workers, War Widows & Gallantry Award Winners, Padam Shree Awardees, Freedom Fighters.

The Ancient Himachal

The history of Himachal Pradesh dates back to the days of Indus Valley civilization. The original tribes that inhibited the Indus valley civilizations were Koilis, Halis, Dagis, Dhaugris, Dasas, Khasas, Kinnars and Kirats. Gradually the Aryan civilization invaded this region. Renuka Fair, celebrated in the month of November, is held on the banks of Renuka lake in Sirmour Distt. It falls on the eleventh day after Diwali. According to a legend Lord Parashuram and his mother, Goddess Renuka, meet for one-and-a-half day between Dashmi and Ekadashi every year, and to commemorate this meeting the fair is organised.
