Preferable Modes of Transport to Himachal- Book Online Bus Tickets to visit Himachal

Being from Himachal and having lived outside of the state for many years of my life is something which makes
me eligible to answer this question. Reaching Himachal is always a topic which requires a lot of research
on How, Where, When etc queries. I am going to cover all of your concerns here including all modes of
transport keeping it short and clear.Best option is to reach Delhi/Chandigarh whatever is convenient for
you based on which place you are travelling from. There are flights joining Delhi/Chandigarh with many states.

  • Consider two options for travelling from Delhi to Himachal by Bus.
  1. Government buses: There are numerous buses starting from Delhi ISBT Kashmiri Gate to Manali, Dharamshala, Chamba, Shim,Rampur and even many other remote locations like Chitkul. Book online at: https://online.hrtchp.com
  2. There are more than a hundred private buses travelling daily from Delhi. All these buses start from a location called as Majnu ka Tilla in North Delhi. You can book one of these buses at https://www.redbus.in/ or https://www.goibibo.com/
  • 95% of HRTC govt. buses travelling from Delhi to major tourist locations will pass through Chandigarh. You can board the bus in Chandigarh if you landed directly in Chandigarh from your source location.
  • Travelling by air directly to locations like Bhuntar(Kullu), Gaggal(Dharamshala) and Shimla is not a reliable option. Mountain weather conditions can change dramatically from one hour to the next. You have to live with a fear of flight cancellation/delay untill you board it. To make your journey more convenient, consider travelling by road from Delhi/Chandigarh. There are one or two flights plying to the state from Delhi hosted by Air India and Spicejet. Reason why i say one or two is that airlines keep on adding removing flights based on the seasonal traffic.
  • There are still no express trains to Himachal except to a few till Bordering Districts but I wont recommend this option since travelling further could be troublesome and may take a lot of effort. You can travel till Delhi/Chandigarh/Ambala by train and then take road to reach your destination.
